Children’s Festival

Well of course there are clowns in Africa – why would I have thought otherwise? These Kenyan clowns have the whole curly rainbow hair and red nose that the clowns in all the movies have. They have the baggy clothes, super high voice, and big shoes. The clowns are here at the Thiiri Centre for the day-long Children’s Festival that is being held here.

And of course there are in Kenya the huge, building-sized, inflatable, stinky bouncy things that kids love. I don’t think I’m the only one who didn’t think that they would be seen here. It’s a bit surreal.

The kids range from infants to teenagers. They are running, screaming, and having a great time, complete with conga lines, musical chairs, blaring music. It makes me miss my students!
