While Boniface was away in Nakuru, I had been meeting with the students in the gardens and rooms of the Thiiri Centre. The most advanced class (which comprised of different kids each day) was doing so well on this particular day that I decided that it was time for them to perform. We rounded up some of the Thiiri staff, and had a mini-concert on the deck. The kids are either 5th or 6th graders. The boy on the left, in yellow, had started the violin from scratch that morning, about two hours prior to the concert. His name is Mathews and he is the Bishop’s grandson. The other kids had all started with the first group of teachers who came to Meru, and have probably had about 20 or 30 classes total.
